Culver sets the pace

Aurora, ON - The Prep Hockey Conference showcase at St. Andrew’s College’s La Brier Family Arena delivered three action-packed days of hockey from November 14–16, featuring every PHC program on the same sheet and plenty of early-season storylines.

The weekend was headlined by a dominant showing from the Culver Academies Eagles, who finished a perfect 3–0. Culver opened with a 6–2 win over Northwood on Friday, followed it up with a 9–1 victory against Mount St. Charles on Saturday, and closed the event with a 3–0 shutout of South Kent on Sunday, outscoring opponents 18–3 in the process.

Shattuck St. Mary’s put together another strong PHC weekend, going 2–1 at La Brier. After dropping a tight 3–2 decision to South Kent in their opener, the Sabres responded with convincing wins over Northwood (8–1) and Mount St. Charles (6–1), again showing the depth and pace that make them a perennial contender.

The host and defending PHC champion St. Andrew’s College Saints went 2–1 in front of their home crowd. SAC edged Mount St. Charles 3–2 on Friday, earned a 5–3 victory over South Kent on Saturday, and finished with a hard-fought 5–2 loss to Northwood on Sunday. Forward Nolan Long and defenseman Finn Kearns were consistent bright spots, helping drive the Saints’ transition game and special teams throughout the event.

In the East, South Kent School and Northwood School both finished 1–2 on the weekend. South Kent opened with an impressive 3–2 win over Shattuck before falling to St. Andrew’s (5–3) and Culver (3–0). Northwood started with losses to Culver and Shattuck but closed the showcase on a high note with a 5–2 win over the host Saints. Mount St. Charles Academy battled through one of the most demanding schedules of the event, dropping games to St. Andrew’s, Culver, and Shattuck.

From Culver’s statement sweep to tightly contested games involving the defending champions from St. Andrew’s, the La Brier Showcase once again underscored the PHC’s depth, parity, and reputation as the premier prep hockey conferences in North America.
